In my short lifetime, I’ve done a variety of different physical actives such as swimming, ballet, soccer, karate, taekwondo and netball, and I am still involved in volleyball, cheerleading, jazz, hip hop, tap and yoga, which I do with my Mum.
I love to dance. I have been dancing since I was four and it is still a large passion of mine.
I love dancing because I get to express my feelings through movement. I’m a very competitive person, which must be why I also love playing volleyball. Cheerleading is a bit passion of mine, and I think this is because it helps me to combine my love for both dance and competition. When I’m cheerleading, I love performing and being on stage with all the energy flowing through my body, but I also really like the excitement of competing in a squad environment against other cheerleading teams.
Participating in so many sports and activities can be hard to fit into my schedule and can sometimes be quite tiring especially with school, but it helps that I can build my social life around these activities and do them with my friends and family. This makes it much easier to be active as I really enjoy all of the activities I do and who I do them with, and that enjoyment is much bigger than the difficulties and challenges I can sometimes face. Participating with friends, and making friends through these activities is what makes them so much fun and what makes me want to be involved!
I choose to participate in things like volleyball, cheerleading, yoga and dance, not only because I enjoy them, but also because l know that they are really good for my health and will help me in the long run. The activities that I choose to participate in also allow me to work out and keep fit without noticing that I’m doing so, because I’m always having so much fun, like when I dance with my friends, or do yoga with Mum. While I’m doing these things, I’m more focused on how much fun I’m having and who I’m with, rather than how much I’m puffing! At the end of the activity though, I love the feeling when you’re all sweaty, tired and out of breath because you know you’ve tried your best and pushed yourself as far as you could. And that’s all that really matters…
When I’m older my goal is to join a competitive volleyball team so that I can compete more often. Even further into the future, I want to remain fit and active so that I can help my children stay fit and active, like my Mum does with me. I really enjoy doing yoga with Mum and that’s something I want to be able to do with my children one day.
I believe that if you have a passion for something, or you decide you would like to try something new, then you should go for it, and not let anything or anyone hold you back.
